Tally on Ubuntu? Your books, on every device

For TallyPrime Cloud Access and any Ubuntu machine that runs Tally. Install this small agent on the same machine as Tally — it syncs your books to your secure Nexvia Books account every couple of minutes, updates itself, and needs no terminal and no technical steps: setup is a simple form in your browser.

Using Tally Cloud Access in a browser?

Do everything below inside that cloud screen (its own Firefox and file manager) — not on your local computer. The agent must live where Tally lives.

Install in ~5 minutes · no terminal

Step-by-step

1

Switch on TallyPrime's data port

In TallyPrime: press F1 (Help) → SettingsConnectivity. Set 'TallyPrime acts as' = Both and Port = 9000. Then close and reopen Tally and load your company.

Quick check: open http://localhost:9000 in the browser — Tally answers "TallyPrime Server is Running" when the port is on.

2

Download & extract to a permanent folder

Click Download for Ubuntu / Linux above (saves nexvia-books-agent-linux.tar.gz). In the file manager, right-click it → Extract Here. Move the extracted nexvia-books-agent-linux folder somewhere permanent — for Tally Cloud users, next to your Tally data on the D drive is perfect. Not Downloads, not /tmp.

3

Double-click "SETUP - Nexvia Books"

Open the extracted folder and double-click SETUP - Nexvia Books. If it asks whether to run or trust it, choose Run / Trust & Launch. A Nexvia setup page opens in your browser.

Nothing happened? Right-click it → Properties → Permissions → Allow executing file as program, then double-click again. (Or open the "IF SETUP WONT OPEN" text file in the folder — it has a one-step fix.)

Fill three boxes, then turn on your company — all on one page

On the setup page: type your Nexvia Books email, password and workspace phone number (create your free account first at books.nexviatech.in if you haven't). Click Test Tally on this computer — it lists the companies it can see. Then Save & Start Sync. The page then shows your companies right there — click Enable sync next to the one you want. Already-enabled companies just show ✓ Syncing. That's the whole setup — nothing to open elsewhere.

Fill this once — after that, sync runs by itself.

Save & Start Sync

The setup validates your sign-in and your Tally connection before it saves — mistakes are caught on the spot.

See it on your phone

Open books.nexviatech.in on any phone or laptop and sign in — your books are there. The first sync pulls your full history (a few minutes for most companies); after that everything stays fresh automatically whenever Tally is open. Nothing else to keep running.

Common questions

Do I need a terminal or any Linux knowledge? +
No. Everything is point-and-click: download, extract, double-click SETUP, fill a small form in the browser. (If you do have a terminal and prefer it, running bash install.sh in the folder does the same thing.)
How do updates work? +
Completely automatically. The agent checks Nexvia's cryptographically-signed release feed every 2 minutes and upgrades itself in place — new features and fixes just arrive. You never re-download or reinstall anything.
Does my computer / session need to stay on? +
Sync runs while Tally is open on that machine — for cloud users, while your Tally Cloud session is open. When you close it, your phone still shows everything up to the last sync, and syncing resumes automatically the next time you open Tally. Nothing else (like your own laptop) needs to stay on.
Is it safe? What can it access? +
It reads your TallyPrime data on that machine and syncs it to your own secure, PIN-protected Nexvia Books workspace — nobody else's. Your sign-in stays on that machine in a file only your user can read, and updates are accepted only when signed by Nexvia's release key.
My company asks for a username/password inside Tally +
Open the Advanced panel on the setup page and enter that same Tally username/password there — companies with Tally's security control are invisible to the sync without it.
Double-clicking SETUP does nothing / opens as text +
Some very locked-down desktops block a launcher that came from a download. Fix: right-click "SETUP - Nexvia Books" → Properties (or "Set Permissions") → tick "Allow executing file as program" (some call it "Allow Launching"), then double-click it again. Still nothing? Open the file "IF SETUP WONT OPEN - read me.txt" that's in the same folder — it has a copy-paste launcher that always works (nothing to edit), or just open http://127.0.0.1:8123 in Firefox (the setup may already be running).
